Congrats to Khalilah Smith on completing her research project in the lab this summer as an undergraduate research associate. She presented her poster "Effect of Nitrogen Fertilization on Extraradical Hyphae in Hybrid Poplar Stands" at the KBS Undergraduate Research Symposium in early August. Best wishes and farewell!
I've recently returned from ESA in Portland, Oregon where I presented a 'Late-Breaking' poster on the FLS project. The meeting was great and appreciate the opportunity to learn about a lot of really important and interesting ecological research. I was also lucky enough to spend the weekend in the area and made it out to Mt. Hood and a near by old growth riparian forest (see pics below). Stay tuned for a special post about riparian trees and their interactions with streams! This week we started collecting root, leaf and soil samples for the MyDRT project at the Lux Arbor poplar plots. Next week we make the trek up to Lake City, MI to sample. Khalilah Smith, the fantastic URA I'm working with this summer, is processing soils for her project that is focusing on whether fertilizer influences the amount of extraradical hyphae in these soils.
Below is a picture of one of the leaves we collected at Lux Arbor to determine specific leaf area and C & N contents. Pictures of roots to follow! |
